Retail investing has exploded in popularity, particularly among younger demographics who want to manage their portfolios from their phones. However, most investment apps either cater to professionals (too complex) or beginners (too limited). A fintech company tasked GrowwTech with designing a mobile investment app that serves both audiences – providing depth for active traders while remaining approachable for first-time investors.

The Challenge

The client’s competitive analysis revealed a clear gap in the market:

• Professional platforms (Bloomberg Terminal, Interactive Brokers) were powerful but overwhelming for casual investors
• Beginner platforms (simplified trading apps) lacked the analytics and charting tools that users needed as they grew more sophisticated
• Most apps separated portfolio management from trading – forcing users to switch between screens to make informed decisions
• Stock purchase flows were typically 4–5 screens long, creating friction that discouraged impulsive (yet informed) trading
• Data visualisation on mobile was consistently poor – either too dense to read or too sparse to be useful

Our Solution

GrowwTech designed a mobile investment application with a “grow with the user” philosophy. The default interface is clean and approachable, but progressive disclosure reveals deeper analytics, advanced charting, and detailed stock data as the user’s confidence grows. The design uses a dark-mode financial aesthetic with green accent colours signalling growth and prosperity.

• Stock Price Trends Screen: Users can monitor real-time stock price trends with interactive charts that support multiple timeframes (1D, 1W, 1M, 3M, 1Y, All). Colour-coded indicators and percentage changes provide instant context for buy/sell decisions.

• Unified Portfolio Screen: A single screen shows total portfolio value, today’s gain/loss, asset allocation breakdown, and a scrollable list of individual holdings. Each holding displays current price, quantity, average cost, and unrealised P&L. Quick-action buttons for “Buy More” and “Sell” sit inline, eliminating navigation.

• Streamlined Stock Purchase Screen: Designed to reduce the buy/sell flow to a single screen. Users see the current price, can enter shares or amount, review the estimated total, and confirm — all without leaving the page. Smart defaults (suggested quantities based on portfolio balance) reduce decision paralysis.

• Transaction Analytics: A detailed transaction history with filtering by stock, date, and action (buy/sell/dividend) helps users analyse their trading patterns and learn from their investment behaviour.
